  • This program started with funding from the United Way BC Kapwa Strong Fund, which was established after the Lapu Lapu events of April 26, 2025. 🤍

Grief and trauma look incredibly different for someone who was there at the time of the incident, someone who was there that day, someone who planned to go to the festival, someone who lost a loved one, someone who was connected to the Filipino community.

The creative process was essential in introducing ease and lightness in this program. Some of the themes that emerged from the sessions were belonging, safety, and connection. These art pieces were created in response to them.

This is the exhibition write-up that was co-written by the group:

Healing Art Circles
Ten sessions of collective co-creation.

What do safety, connection and community mean after tragedy?
Navigating collective grief, sadness and loss
Fun, colourful, spontaneous, collaborative
Creative release
Splatter movements
Chit chat sessions
Nice to be witnessed
Speaking in Tagalog was YES! OMG YES!
To speak my language again
Letting go
The pressure of having to be good at a hobby
Connect with your inner child
Release
Expectations and stress
Be able to just do what I wanted to do
Art less intimidating
Roots of trees supporting each other
Like community
The food! Filipino food!
Food was very helpful
Releasing together
Safely falling and connecting
Cradled by community
Belonging in strength

  • Our family programs create a huge impact in the families they serve. 🩵 We create community and celebrate diversity and inclusion in each of our drop-in programs.

This beautiful family shares how finding a Spanish-speaking space at Frog Hollow helped them feel welcomed, supported, and connected. 💛🐝 La Colmena is more than a program it’s a community. A place where children play, culture is celebrated, and families grow together.

✨ Gracias por compartir su historia. We love you and all the incredible families that are part of our community.
